Okay... questo è il tanto acclamato tentativo di tirar su una discussione seria su ciò che ascoltiamo.

Più che uno spammatoio dove postare 10.000 volte sempre i soliti titoli giusto per far incrementare il contapost, questa nuova discussione vuole essere un qualcosa di utile a diffondere la cultura musicale di tutto ciò che ascoltiamo.

Quindi, oltre al titolo della canzone ascoltata, si potrebbe ad esempio indicare:

• informazioni sull'album che contiene la canzone citata;
  
• informazioni sull'artista che la suona;
  
• come avete conosciuto questa canzone;
  
• sentimenti ed emozioni suscitati dalla canzone.

Questa mi sembra la migliore soluzione al problema dell'altra discussione, che è rimasto irrisolto (c'era ancora gente che faceva 6-7 post di fila sempre nella stessa pagina, a volte cambiando canzone ogni 2 minuti... ridicolo!).

Kirsty Hawkshaw is a hugely talented singer/songwriter. Her background in early dance culture, and her work with electronic pioneers such as Hybrid, Swayzak, Ikon, Global Communication, Pole Folder, Tiesto, Orbital and many more, has repeatedly assured her a place in an ever-changing zeitgeist. It's a trajectory that's taken her from sweaty raves to the Big Chill – exactly the kind of place you'll hear her music in 2005.

Kirsty first came to prominence back in the early 1990's as the singer and songwriter for Opus III. She grabbed the nation's immediate attention via their Top 5 single 'Fine Day', and her appearance on the UK's Top Of The Pops (dressed in a rave-style catsuit and sporting a shaven head). Beyond Opus III, she released her debut artist album, 'O<-U->T', in 1998. Produced by Mark Pritchard (of Reload and Jedi Knights fame), it was yet more evidence of a burgeoning talent.

She has continued to pen collaborations with the cream of the electronic music community up to present day, her latest work with underground faves Mr Sam and Pole Folder being just two examples.

"A meta-message is a midi message that is not meaningful to synthesisers, but that can be stored in a midi file and interpreted by a sequencer program - like a voice, lyrics, emotion. When you communicate, it's the overall 'vibe' you give that extends beyond Meta (what your saying/singing)..." - Kirsty Hawkshaw

In her solo career, Kirsty has further developed as an artist, reaching out beyond the confines of the 4/4 beat, and into an area that reflects her own musical passion. 'Meta-Message' is both a nod to her past, and a look ahead at the musical path that she continues to blaze. The glorious 'Just Be Me' (originally written and produced by Jimmy Gomez and Judie Tzuke) starts the album. James Holden's remix of 'Fine Day' is present and correct, as is her new single 'Reach For Me', an intelligent slice of lyrical pop, and certainly her most accessible song so far. Other tracks include 'Walking On Clouds' (written and produced Tiesto in association with Josh Gabriel of Gabriel & Dresden), 'Blackout' (written with Hybrid), and further new songs 'All I Want' (produced by Hybrid's Mike Truman), 'Beautiful Danger', and 'Whisper', produced by techno stalwart Dave Randall of Slovo fame.

'Meta-Message' is a collective body of work that pays homage to some of Kirsty's best tracks from her extensive catalogue, reading like a who's who of the dance scene, with the underlying message throughout being an incredible voice thas has transcended the last decade and that shall continue to do so for some time to come.

Sto ascoltando l'ultimo album della "regina dell'HipHop Soul", cioè Mary J. Blige

Mary J. Blige: “The Breakthrough” (Geffen/Universal).
C’è tanta black music, c’è tanto R&B da classifica, c’è tanto soul che sta crescendo, ci sono club patinati e videoclip pieni zeppi di rapper muscolosi e groupies mulatte al limite dell’hardcore. Ci sono tanti beats che poi passano, che si ballano per mezza stagione e vengono dimenticati. Poi c’è il Bronx. E una ragazza che viene da lì, portandone fisicamente addosso le cicatrici, sul suo viso.
C’è una sola Regina, ed è lei: Mary J.
E potranno anche dirvi che attualmente esistono dive più glamour, artiste più raffinate o interpreti più dotate. Ma resta lei e solo lei the Queen of hip hop/soul: Mary J.

A due anni di distanza dal precedente “Love & life”, Mary J. Blige torna con “The Breakthrough”, il suo settimo album. Per un momento era anche stata annunciata l’uscita autunnale del suo primo Greatest Hits (già pronto) ma evidentemente la forza interiore di Mary J. l’ha poi spinta a rimandare l’appuntamento con i suoi successi (sempre rassicurante) per rimettersi in gioco con materiale inedito. Ecco anche qui la differenza con le altre. Ecco il ruggito della leonessa, che si rialza in piedi, a testa alta, OGNI maledetta volta! Non a caso sarà proprio lei ad interpretare sul grande schermo la vita della grandissima Nina Simone (tra l’altro campionata nella bella “About you”), che come lei ha sempre lottato (anche per l’affermazione dei diritti civili degli afroamericani) e che come lei ha sempre creduto nella NATURALE esposizione di se stessa.

Apre le danze la potente “No one will do”, scritta a quattro mani con il marito Kendu Isaacs, con cui la Regina da’ immediatamente la sua prima lezione: beat incalzante, voce aggressiva ma mai ostentata (imparate stelline dell’R&B!), miscela perfetta di hip hop e soul. Ecco come si fa un pezzo! Così come “MJB da MVP”, straordinariamente irresistibile, che - nata lo scorso anno come remix di “Hate it or love it” di The Game e 50 Cent – ha avuto più successo del brano originale ed è giustamente stata inserita nell’album.

C’è un fuoriclasse come Raphael Saadiq che – con la stessa Blige – scrive “I found my everything”, soul ballad immensa, da brivido nel crescendo vocale del refrain, che potrebbe trovare un posto negli annali della Motown senza il minimo problema (ed è proprio grazie a brani come questo che viene sempre riconosciuta come l’erede di Aretha Franklin). Saadiq torna in chiusura anche nella raffinata “So lady”, che tra gli autori conta anche Teedra Moses, artista che – dopo il suo esordio con l’album “Complex Simplicity” dello scorso anno – è davvero da tenere d’occhio! Da segnalare infine lo splendido duetto con Bono nella “One” di casa U2. Come già in passato con George Michael o Sting, Mary J. è nuovamente l’unica che può permettersi collaborazioni di questo tipo, perché oltrepassa i canoni estetici del soul/R&B e viene riconosciuta come una GRANDE interprete, aldilà del genere cui appartiene




Come sempre bravissima! questo album mi ha stupito!

Ora invece sto ascoltando l'album di Jamie Foxx, che da attore si è trasformato in veste da cantante...stupendomi pure lui!

That it is. In his first network special, the actor-singer opens with his verse from Twista's name-dropping "Slow Jamz." And that's apropos because this hour is all about guest stars and generic R&B balladry. But the little girls understand; so do the not so little ones -- the telegenic ones strategically placed down front in the crowd who get lots of camera time as they swoon over Foxx's act.

Foxx's Oscar-certified celebrity pushed his album, "Unpredictable," to No. 1 this month. In a case of perfect promotional timing, NBC's "Jamie Foxx Unpredictable" also features Mary J. Blige, whose latest disc nudged Foxx from the chart summit last week. Others turning up include Snoop Dogg, Common, Angie Stone, Ludacris and Stevie Wonder. Note to actors who want to cross over into singing: Avoid duetting with Wonder, especially on one of his greatest songs. Limitations tend to show through.

It's not that Foxx is a lousy singer; in fact, he's perfectly adequate. But the whole affair plays like a fine actor portraying an R&B crooner. Female dancers in supershort outfits mostly just distract attention from Foxx's singing, which is just what they're supposed to do.

Interspliced between songs are vignettes about Foxx's childhood and the star discussing his love for Grandma, music and girls. Ultimately, "Jamie Foxx Unpredictable" from Foxxhole Prods. seems much better suited for UPN than NBC, but the peacock will take a young-skewing primetime audience wherever it can get it. Then again, it's up against "American Idol."
